A traditional Greek sweet that originates from the Ionian Islands and specifically from Corfu. It has Italian influences and it slowly but surely emerged in the Greek traditional cuisine as well.
The soft nougat was a sweet of the Venetians that came to Corfu during the Venetian Era since it was the favourite dessert of the aristocracy. The name “Mantolato“ comes from the Italian word mandorla (that means almond) and besides almonds it contains a lot of honey, a little sugar and egg whites’ meringue.
Enjoy Bonum Terrae mandolato with your coffee or as a snack during the day.
